HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

OfficeJet Pro 7740 is HP’s Wide Format Inkjet All-In-One Printer that allows users to print, scan, copy, and fax, and is capable of working with large 11 x 17″ and A3 documents.

HP OfficeJet Pro 7740The printer can print at extraordinary quality and speed with a maximum resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi and output with an ISO value of 22 ppm in black and 18 ppm in color.

Borderless printing and automatic duplex are also available to further expand printing capabilities. For scanning, copying, and sending faxes, this Hp 7740 has a flatbed and ADF for scanning. It uses an optical scanning resolution of 1200 dpi for a sharp, flatbed image measuring 11.7 x 17″.

Unit operation is also simplified via the 2.65″ touchscreen LCD control panel. And the unit is equipped with two 250-sheet input trays, as well as a 35-sheet ADF, for loading different types of media at once, eliminating the need for users to constantly load media. USB 2.0, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi connectivity to make setting up the printer as easy as you want. Here is a review of the results of a test we conducted on the OfficeJet Pro 7740.


The OfficeJet Pro 7740 is a great printer. These take up a lot of space wherever you put them, and they are also very heavy for a family’s favorite printer.

Build & Design Quality

Has excellent build quality. The body of the OfficeJet Pro 7740 feels solid and you can disconnect the power cord if needed. You can also easily clear jams from the rear compartment or the automatic document feeder.

There is a light on the cartridge panel, this is for better visibility if you work in a dark room. However, if you have to print a lot of pages, the printer tends to jiggle a lot. The printer must also be on if you want access to the ink cartridges, and the scanner lid cannot be extended to support larger items such as books or magazines.

Display Screen

Having a nice display screen, the OfficeJet Pro 7740 is similar to the OfficeJet Pro 9025, they have a responsive touch screen that provides audible tactile feedback.

There are four touch buttons that surround the screen, and you can tilt the screen panel vertically for better visibility. It’s a bit small, so it’s a little more challenging to use for those with big fingers.


OfficeJet Pro 7740 has excellent scanning features. You can easily save old family photos with the flatbed scanner and you can scan multiple documents at once using the automatic document feeder (ADF). However, the ADF has a maximum resolution of only 300 DPI.


Not only does it have a great scanning fireplace, but the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 also has an excellent cartridge system. They can produce multiple pages before you have to replace the cartridge and if you print a lot of pages, a higher yield cartridge is available.

This printer also accepts third-party cartridges, but doing so may invalidate its warranty, and special care should be taken as this printer uses pigment-based inks.

Printing Speed

Has a very good print speed. The HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is capable of printing fast black text documents, but color documents are a little slower. For a photo, the printer takes less than 50 seconds to fully print.

Cost Per Print

The HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 has an excellent cost-per-print. It is very affordable for printing black, as well as color documents. Photos also have a very low cost per print.

Keep in mind that even if you only print in black, most inkjets continue to use color cartridges for service tasks, so you may need to replace them eventually.

Photo Printing Quality

Overall, the OfficeJet Pro 7740 has a fairly good photo print quality. The image looks detailed, although there is still some color in grayscale.

Color Accuracy

The HP Pro 7740 printer has fine printing color accuracy. Actually, this is fine if you are just casually printing something, but it is not suitable for those of you who need more accurate color reproduction.

Printing Size

OfficeJet Pro 7740 has two front input trays, it is customizable and supports all the most common paper formats.


This Pro 7740 printer has excellent connectivity options. Even though they don’t have Bluetooth connectivity, there are still plenty of wireless options available including dedicated cellular services like Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Service.

On the front right of the printer is a USB input, this allows you to print directly from a USB thumb drive.

Mobile Print App

The printer supports the HP Smart App. You can use it to print, scan, and copy directly from your mobile device. You can even order ink and paper and perform maintenance tasks.
