The following is a review of the results of the tests we conducted on HP’s ENVY Photo 6255 product.
Dimensions
The ENVY Photo 6255 is a small, compact All-in-One Inkjet printer that is very similar in size to the HP ENVY Photo 7155.
- Height: 6.3″ (15.9 cm)
- Width: 17.8″ (45.3 cm)
- Depth: 15.6″ (39.6 cm)
- Weight: 14.3 lbs (6.5 kg)
Build & Design Quality
ENVY 6255 has a medium quality and design. Although the printer’s body feels sturdy, some of the design features are less than ideal. The main input tray cannot be removed, making it difficult to load paper because the space is quite narrow. The photo paper tray is separate and located above the ordinary paper tray so that there is little space to load paper.
Raising the scanner base gives you access to the ink cartridge, even when the printer is dead, and also gives you access to clear paper jams. Unfortunately, the scanner lid does not reach larger items such as textbooks.
Display Screen
The HP 6255 has a simple display screen. Although this is a monochrome LCD screen, unlike the HP ENVY Photo 7855, it is much simpler and easier to use. It has good visibility whether you sit or stand in front of it, and has a fairly fast response time. The menu is easy to navigate and the screen can display several instructional videos including how to replace paper and load ink cartridges.
Scanner
The HP 6255 has a mediocre scanner. That does not include Automatic Document Feeder, which means scanning can be more than one document at a time can be tedious. The scanned cover also cannot be raised to scan larger documents.
Cartridge
ENVY Photo 6255 has a bad cartridge system. The cartridge does not last long, and because all three colors are combined into one cartridge when the color is low, you need a completely new cartridge. The black and color page yield is a significant improvement over the HP ENVY 5055, but the color yield is still lower than other HP ENVYs that we have tested.
The printer also accepts third-party cartridges, but using them can invalidate your warranty.
Printing Speed
The HP ENVY 6255 has mediocre printing speeds. It takes a long time to print photos, which is surprising considering this is a photo printer. The HP ENVY Photo 7855/7858 can print photos a little faster if it’s a must.
The input tray can hold up to 125 sheets of paper, so you can let it run a few moments before having to reload. However, the output tray can only hold up to 25 sheets.
Cost Per Print
The HP 6255 has a decent cost per print. Because of the low yield of black and color cartridges, they need to be replaced frequently. Fortunately, the replacement is not too expensive. This model qualifies for an HP Instant Ink subscription, so HP will automatically send you a replacement when your cartridge is low.
Remember that even if you only print in black, most inkjet printers continue to use color cartridges for service tasks, so you might still need to replace them eventually.
Photo Printing Quality
The HP 6255 printer has good quality photo printing. There are visible transverse lines, especially in blue and green. There is also a clear green color on a grayscale. If you are looking for an HP printer with better photo print quality, see DeskJet 3755 from HP as well.
Color Accuracy
The HP ENVY Photo 6255 has excellent color accuracy. Color is quite accurate and shouldn’t be a problem for most people, even though it won’t be suitable for some needs that require very accurate colors, such as a graphic designer or professional photographer.
Printing Size
The ENVY 6255 printer supports the most common paper sizes up to standard legal sizes. It also includes a paper tray for special photos.
Connectivity
This printer has satisfactory connectivity options. Unfortunately, they don’t have an ethernet connection, nor do they include external storage support. You can use Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print services, but don’t support Bluetooth, except during settings. If connectivity is the most important feature for you, then see ENVY Photo 7855.
Mobile Print App
The HP ENVY 6255 is compatible with the HP Smart App which is available for Android and iOS devices. This allows you to print, scan, and copy. You can even do maintenance tasks, as well as buy or manage your HP ink subscriptions.
