Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 Small-in-One Printer
Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 is an Inkjet Printer Small-In-One that fills a variety of needs in a compact design, this Small-In-One Inkjet Printer can print, scan, and copy documents for home offices or personal use. They are able to print at high speeds of 15 ppm in black or 11 ppm in color and reach a maximum resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi.
XP-7100 printer functions to print high-quality images and photos and high-volume documents. The 100-page input tray and the 30-page ADF feature enable automatic two-sided printing, scanning, and copying, and this unit is compatible with Wi-Fi Direct to set up wireless network-free connections between tablets, smartphones, and printers.
Epson XP-7100 also comes with a 4.3-inch touch screen with navigation to print directly from a USB flash drive or SD card. Below are detailed reviews according to the results of tests we have carried out in various aspects and hopefully, this can be your reference in choosing an inkjet printer.
Build & Design Quality
Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 has a pretty good design. The output tray slides out automatically when printing, and will pull back by pressing the button on the touch screen. The input tray feels solid and this produces a good click when the bar is fully expanded and closed properly.
The scanner lid also feels sturdy and can be slightly lifted to scan magazines, but this is not enough for thicker books. The automatic document feeder (ADF) cover feels very thin, and, the rear input extension seems very fragile. You can only access ink cartridges when the printer is on.
Dimensions
Even though it looks small, the Epson Expression XP-7100 is a bit heavy, but they are still quite compact considering all the features offered. Here are the details
- Height 7.4″ (18.9 cm)
- Width 15.4″ (39.0 cm)
- Depth 13.8″ (35.1 cm)
- Weight 19.0 lbs (8.6 kg)
Display Screen
This Epson XP-7100 printer has a very good display. The screen can turn on automatically when the printer is turned on, and the screen console is raised up when printing for better visibility. You can also adjust the angle manually. This menu is easy to navigate and the screen is quite responsive.
Cartridge
The Epson XP-7100 has a bad 5-cartridge inkjet system. The results of black pages and colors are terrible. You don’t need to print too much before this printer needs a new ink cartridge. Fortunately, if you run out of black ink during a print job, the printer will ask to use a black photo or color cartridge to complete the active job.
Unfortunately, you cannot continue printing in black and white with a photo or color cartridge after the job is complete. On the bright side, there are high yield cartridges available.
This printer will accept third-party cartridges, but this can void the warranty. Special attention must also be given because this printer uses a combination of dyes and pigment-based inks.
Scanner
For scanning, the Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 has excellent scanning features. They don’t have faxes, but just about everything else. There is not only a sheetfed scanner with an automatic document feeder (ADF), but also duplex scanning.
This is especially helpful when it comes to taxing when you need to scan or copy lots of two-sided documents quickly. However, the flatbed is limited to letter-sized documents (8.5″ x 11″). If you need something with a larger flatbed scanner, consider choosing the Epson WorkForce WF-7720.
Printing Speed
If you are looking for a fast printing machine, this printer has a disappointing printing speed. Black and white documents take the same amount of time to print in color, and the first page that comes out is quite slow. It also takes time, more than one minute for a 4″ x 6″ photo.
Cost Per Print
The cost per print of Epson Premium is very bad. Because the page yields are very low, the cartridge needs to be replaced quite often, which grows quickly. Color cartridges are available in bundle packages to provide better value, but it is still rather expensive.
Photo Printing Quality
For photo print quality it looks good. But the photo has a lot of spots, the color is bright, and yellow has a good voice tone. These results are based on actual physical photos, which may not represent the print quality of the printer photos.
Color Accuracy
The Epson XP-7100 has mediocre color accuracy. This should not be too much of a problem if you only print documents for use around the house but it will be a problem if you rely on accurate colors for each job.
Printing Size
The Epson XP-7100 has a number of different paper inputs. There is one behind for plain paper, as well as two trays in front. One front tray can support plain or larger photo paper, while the other tray is for smaller photo paper sizes. There is also a CD printing input so you can print directly on the applicable CD or DVD.
Connectivity
For matters of connectivity, the Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 has very good features. You can set it up with a wireless router either via Wi-Fi or Ethernet or connect to a printer directly via Wi-Fi Direct.
The printer does not support Bluetooth printing but works well with AirPrint and Mopria on your mobile device. You can also print an SD card or USB key.
Mobile Print App
The Epson iPrint app is very good. You can print, scan, and copy directly from the application, perform maintenance tasks such as firmware updates or printhead cleaning, and check your ink levels.
