Canon PIXMA TR8620 Wireless Home Office All-In-One PrinterPIXMA TR8620 is a wireless home office all-in-one Printer from Canon. It works with both Windows and Mac operating systems. This is a compact printer designed for the home office user.

The printer is easy to set up and use, it has a 4.3″ LCD touch screen for an intuitive user interface, and it offers both wired and wireless functionality.

The Canon TR8620 supports multiple users via an ethernet or Wi-Fi network connection, and the printer allows you to print from a smartphone or tablet via the Canon PRINT App, Easy-PhotoPrint Editor App, Apple AirPrint, Mopria Print Service, and many more.

There is a front and back paper feed that allows you to load up to 200 sheets at one time, and the 20-sheet ADF allows you to scan and copy images quickly and efficiently.

The flatbed scanner is also available in 8.5 x 11.7-inch sizes, it allows you to scan at high resolution up to 1200 x 2400 dpi, and when using the ADF you can scan legal-size documents up to 8.5 x 14″.

Black copy speed is also very fast reaching 14.1 ipm and color copy speed is impressive at 5.2 ipm. The following is a review of our test results on the Canon PIXMA TR8620 product.

Dimensions

The PIXMA TR8620 is a compact printer, making it the ideal choice for your small office or dormitory as it won’t take up much space on your desk or shelf.

  • Height: 7.4″ (18.9 cm)
  • Width: 17.3″ (43.9 cm)
  • Depth: 13.8″ (35.1 cm)
  • Weight:17.4 lbs (7.9 kg)

Build & Design Quality

The TR8620 printer has the good build quality and design. The entire body is made of plastic, with some parts, such as the output tray and scanner lid, feeling a little thin and wobbly.

The scanner lid raises slightly to accommodate an average-size book and remains on its own. In addition, it is also easy to reach paper jams from the rear access point. The printer must be on in order to replace the cartridges, which is an easy task to do.

Display Screen

TR8620’s display screen is excellent. It’s very easy to navigate the menus on the large LCD touch screen, and easy to see at almost any angle. It also has quick access to copy, scan, fax, and print options from the menu and there are even instructional video tutorials for tasks like fixing paper jams.

But unfortunately, the screen is very vulnerable to double clicks and is not responsive to the touch.

Cartridge

PIXMA TR8620 has a good cartridge system. They have two black and three color cartridges. Although the yield of black ink is quite low and often needs to be replaced, color cartridges offer better yield value.

However, there are higher yield cartridges available if you need them.

Scanner

TR8620 has great scanner features. They have a flatbed for scanning average-sized books or manuals, and there is an automatic document feeder. The printer does not support duplex scanning, so you will have to manually flip two-sided documents.

The lid of the scanner wobbles slightly when opened. There is an integrated fax, which may be useful for those of you who are in an office environment. The default scan resolution is at 600 DPI, but you can increase it to 1200 DPI from the ‘Scan Gear’ option by accessing the Canon IJ Scan Utility application from your laptop or computer.

Printing Speed

This Canon product has mediocre printing speeds. The first page of a black document prints quite slowly and the following pages are not any faster. Printing in color is even slower.

Cost Per Print

The cost per print of this TR8620 is very good. Printing is quite affordable due to the low cost of the ink cartridges, which is great because black cartridges have a low yield. Printing photos is also quite affordable and even much cheaper than the Canon PIXMA TR8520.

Photo Printing Quality

PIXMA TR8620 has good photo printing quality. The photo has great detail and bright colors, with yellow, in particular, looking great. There are no bands, but there is a hint of color on the grayscale.

Color Accuracy

The printer has mediocre color accuracy. While it’s likely not a dealbreaker for those of you looking to add a splash of color to a document or print some photos for a family scrapbook. If you need more accurate color accuracy for your profession, maybe consider a different printer.

Printing Size

The printer has two adjustable paper trays, one on the front and one at the back which can each hold 100 pages. It supports the most common paper sizes, but cannot print 2 x 3″ photo sizes or 11 x 17″ tabloid sizes.

Connectivity

As a wireless printer, the TR8620 has great connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, and USB. And it’s compatible with AirPrint and Mopria and there’s support for printing via SD card but doesn’t support USB flash drives.

Mobile Print App

The Canon PIXMA TR8620 is compatible with the excellent Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY application. Available on Android and iOS, it allows you to print, scan, and copy directly from the app.

Our Verdict

The PIXMA TR8620 from Canon is a disappointing all-in-one inkjet printer for small or home office users. Even though they are marketed as small printers or home offices, they are probably best suited for families or students.

The photo quality looks good due to bright colors and good detail, while color accuracy should be good enough for casual photo use.

The printer has great connectivity options, including Bluetooth support, and is compatible with the Canon PRINT App. But sadly, the black cartridge yields very few pages and often needs to be replaced.

The printing speed is also a little slow regardless of what you print. On the bright side, the cartridges are reasonably priced and especially offer good value for those of you who want color printing.
