Internal Wi-Fi also allows you to print remotely from mobile devices using services like AirPrint or Mopria.

Here is a detailed review of our test results on this type of Canon product.

Dimensions

The PIXMA TR4520 Wireless printer is relatively compact and doesn’t take up too much space on your desk, it’s great for small offices or dormitories.

  • Height: 7.4″ (18.7 cm)
  • Width: 17.1″ (43.5 cm)
  • Depth: 11.6″ (29.5 cm)
  • Weight: 14.5 lbs (6.6 kg)

Build & Design Quality

PIXMA TR4520 has a slightly disappointing form. While the scanner lid can be slightly raised to accommodate thicker items such as magazines, part of the lid is the output tray and the paper can move when you lift it. The paper input tray is quite small and if you want to store paper in the printer, it must remain open.

If you have a paper jam, you must lift the back of the printer or place it on its side to get it. The ink cartridge can also only be accessed when the printer is on and if you need to change it halfway through the print job, the output tray can get in the way if you have a lot of paper on it.

Display Screen

Not only the form, but PIXMA TR4520 also has a bad screen display. The printer uses what Canon calls a 2-line Full Dot Matrix LCD display that gives a retro impression, like a calculator. However, he has a bad perspective, and to read it clearly, you must stand and look at him. The console display itself cannot be tilted or rotated, so you cannot increase its angle, and the interface menu is very difficult to navigate.

Cartridge

PIXMA TR4520 also has a bad cartridge system. It uses one black cartridge and one color combination. However, this printer does not produce many pages of black ink, which is not good when you need to print many essays or documents. While they produce slightly more color pages, you may have to replace the color cartridge more often to compensate.

If you need more ink, Canon does sell a slightly larger version. This printer can also accept third-party cartridges, but that can void the warranty. If you want a printer with a much higher page yield with black and white documents, see PIXMA MG3620 from Canon too.

Scanner

This is the good side, TR4520 has a good scanning feature. This printer has a flatbed scanner, which is good for finer items, and a sheetfed scanner, which is more suitable for processing multiple pages at a time. It also has an integrated fax, which is a nice touch. However, if you want to copy or scan a two-sided document, you must flip each side manually.

Although the DPI limit seems to be 600 at first glance, if you look under the “driver” tab, you can do further scanning with Canon My Image Garden software at a higher resolution. If you use the Canon IJ Scan Utility application, these settings can be found under the “Scangear” tab.

Printing Speed

Canon TR4520 has a disappointing printing speed. It prints black-only text documents very slowly and color documents are even much slower. Printing one 4″ x 6″ photo also takes more than one minute.

Photo Printing Quality

This PIXMA TR4520 Wireless has impressive photo print quality. Although there are a few lines of color on the grayscale, the color is still bright and the details are also clear.

Printing Size

PIXMA TR4520 has one input tray. They don’t have tapes but have sliders to adjust the most popular paper formats. However, you cannot close the input tray if there is paper loaded in it. While one output tray has an extender.

Color Accuracy

TR4520 has good color accuracy. This should not be a violator for those who print occasional documents with a splash of color, users who need more precise color accuracy might find disappointing results, especially when compared to their original files.

If color accuracy is very important to you, then see ENVY 5055 from HP.

Cost Per Print

The cost per PIXMA TR4520 printout is also disappointing. Even though the price of the cartridge is low, the black ink cartridge can run out quite quickly and if you always replace it, it can add up in the long run. Color cartridges are a bit more cost-effective but because they cover all colors in one unit when you run out of one color, you have to replace the entire cartridge, which can also be expensive in the long run. Canon also does not offer ink subscriptions.

Remember that even if you only print in black, most inkjet printers will continue to use color cartridges for service tasks, so you might still need to replace them eventually.

Connectivity

This PIXMA TR4520 has decent connectivity features. If you want to use it wirelessly, you can connect it to Wi-Fi through your router or if you use a mobile device, you can use Apple AirPrint or Mopria Print Service.

This printer can also use an ethernet cable, which is great if you prefer cable connections. However, it cannot be connected via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Direct, and cannot print anything directly from an external storage device such as a memory card.

Mobile App Print

TR4520 Printer is compatible with Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY App. It is available on Android and iOS, you can print, scan, and copy from the application and view items that you Scan directly on your device. You can even order ink if you need it, but Canon doesn’t offer ink subscription features.

If you want a printer with Bluetooth support, see PIXMA TS5320 from Canon.
