Print Speed and quality
Canon rates the PIXMA MG5520 with 12.2 ipm mono and 8.7 ipm color page-to-page print speeds. In our test, which includes completion time for each print job, we see a speed of 10ppm for our five-page test sheet, rising to 11.5ppm on a 20-page document. Creating a concept mode makes little difference to the overall performance.
This speed is quite satisfactory for all-in-one inkjets, but they only make up about 70 percent of Canon’s claims. A one-page color copy takes 19 seconds, which is fast, while a 15 x 10 cm photo print takes 54 seconds with the highest quality from a PC and more than 30 seconds at normal quality from an SD card and an Android smartphone.
The print quality of this machine meets Canon’s usual high standards. The text is sharp and dense and the colors look smooth and bright, even on plain paper. It’s hard to see a clear difference in photo quality from extra gray ink – it’s quite subtle, and we were surprised to see details in some of the more dangerous shadows.
